My name is Henk van Ess. A few days ago, I lived a normal life as an internet speaker, writer and consultant. Now I am also a battery dealer. What happened?
I don’t sell gadgets. Never did. Now I do. Something went terribly wrong. Here’s what happened. I’% ... Continue reading »

  • Does the battery really come from China BAK Battery, Inc. In my mind, CBAK ships no battery to Apple Inc, and CBAK does not make battery with so high capacity.
  • @Michael

And here's what they say themselves.
  • Hey ! Would you tell me , how you get this battery ? polymer ?
  • Li-Polymer it is...
  • sorry , i want to say , which Brand is the new product ?? the i phone is produced by apple ?

May i have your email address ? i did not find it .

i also want to get such one product .
  • Inside the backup battery, we use Li-Polymer battery as our power source, which is from BAK. Please be advised Li-polymer is better than Li-Ion. If you want to contact me, just click on MAIL US in the main menu. Or try support@3gjuice.com. Or Searchbistro on Skype. You'll find me.
  • Congratulations on your new endeavor, Henk!
  • Thanks Theresa! It feels a little strange to be adressed as a multinational, GIZMODO in The Netherlands had a headline about me 'From newspaper boy to millionaire' :)
  • Cool, just ordered one for my dad and me. Great to read it's safe :). Good luck Henk.
  • Hmm .. the sentence where you say that The 3G JUICE is cheaper than the other battery's on the market is not true. your battery is 35 euro's, the other's are 50 us dollars thats 28 euro...

    :)
  • @Menno: 3GJUICE is the cheapest with this specs: $45. The other batteries are 1000 mAh or 1300 mAh, not 1770 mAh. That difference of 70% will make you smile. But thanks anyway, I edited the claim and added' 'the cheapest with this specs' I'm sure when I get some international wholesalers the price will drop. Check also the nice review on http://arstechnica.com/journals/apple.ars/2008/...
  • @rutger I asked the EVD to have a look at the documents and showed them to some lawyers. So safety first.
  • In theory what would happen if my iPhone gets broken because of this Battery? Will the iPhone guarantee cover it? Is Apple liable of the defect? Or does it just mean you're not liable as a seller?
  • @Rutger. Ah, liability. This was for me the main reason to think hard about this adventure. But my lawyer assured me : the product output voltage/current is designed per Apple specification, it will not make damage to your iPhone/ iPod It has only one contact part with the iPhone/ iPod- the connector which is also specifically ordered from Apple's specified vendor (only one vendor, guess that's called monopoly). So there will be no concern for mechanical part either imho.

If there is solid evidence that our product damages your iPhone, I will cover the material cost for the repair. However, we will not be responsible for any mistake of not using our product properly or any damage caused by accident loss (like dropping to the ground, bended, etc.). The usual stuff I guess. Hope I took away some of your theoratical concerns .

    Thanks,
  • Just checking. Thanks for the information. Sounds great :)

    Veel succes verder!
  • Hello :)

That's a really nice battery! The only thing I've always wondered is does it charge the battery of the iPhone, or does it work like a second battery?

    Meaning:
Does it charge the battery, so you don't have to walk around with an extra battery hanging under your iPhone? I've seen similar options with the old iPods, but that was an extender-pack, which required it to have it hooked up to your iPod at all times (not very ideal).

Other than that; pretty sleak looking, and I can't wait to get one if I ever get my iPhone ;)
  • Hi Joram,

We decided the 3G JUICE to be a charger of the iPhone battery. This enables you that double life we're raving about on this site all the time. When the battery is turning red, click the 3G JUICE under your 3G/2G iPhone or any 30 pins iPod and you can start smiling again: it charges your iPhone.
  • Speedy response, thanks!

That sounds pretty neat... I guess the green light of the 3Gjuice acts as the indicator that tells you if the iPhone battery is full right?

Good luck with the website though... looks like you have a great product on hands :)
  • The green light shows you that the 3G JUICE is still working. The iPhone shows either in the right upper corner the loading icon when in use, or the big battery (with a green bar) if you start working.
  • Is it possible to charge the 3G JUICE from a wall outlet, or it has to be done with a computer?
  • It's computer only, but with a simple USB-charger you can reload the 3G JUICE from your wall outlet (but if you plan to do that, do you really need 3G JUICE? If you are with an outlet, you can use your iPhone cable).

The USB charger of Apple will do the trick too, but if you don't have one, buy one.

It will set you back another $6.99, http://www.amazon.com/Coby-CA-80-Adapter-Charge...
  • Thank you. So, I could use the Apple USB Power Adapter that came with my iPhone 3G. Right?
BTW, I already ordered the 3G JUICE.
  • Hi Henk,

Could you please tell me what time it takes the 3G Juice to fully charge the iPhone?

    Regards,

    Michiel
  • It depends on several factors: the temperature, what you do with you iPhone while loading and if you charged the 3G Juice for 100%. We ran several tests with

    a. iPhone had 30% energy left
    b. 3G Juice was fully loaded
    c. temp was 25 celsius

It took 3 hrs to a full charge.
  • @Miguel: right.. !
  • Hello,

    I've i buy a sixpack of 3G Juice Batteries.
Can I sell one or two of them on Ebay?
    Is this allowed?

I would use 3 or 4 batteries myself but buy the sixpack to do the advantage.

    Vriendelijke Groeten, Andy
  • Hi,

Yes you can sell them on eBay, it's your property. But people are not fond of second hand batteries..so we will sent you six seperate boxes.
  • Sounds all very good. Can I buy the extender in the US, where, and how much is it with basic (3 to 5 day) shipping?
  • Yes, you can, through Amazon (rank 600 in all Electronics last night). Check
    http://www.amazon.com/3G-JUICE-iPhone-Battery-E...

Shipping is 3-5 and is $7
  • Hi Henk,

The New York Times article says you thought of a couple more businesses before, but you decided not to pursue them. What were those? Thanks.
  • Dear Robert,

The first idea came in a plane to a conference, far away from home.
,,Wouldn't it be possible to have a device that shows me everything
that I can see on my tv at home on the screen of my hotelroom?". Three
years later, there was the Slingbox (www.slingbox.com). The second
idea filled my need to browse the internet fast and was a device that
starts your pc in 2 seconds with a simple browser. But hybernation and
the iPhone made this little idea obsolete. I wrote the software though
    :)

  • Beste Henk,
Past de batterij ook als en een hardcover om de iPhone zit?
    Bedankt,
    Gert
  • Ja, bij de meeste wel. Anders ruilen.
  • I've read that the 3gjuice will not fit with the Otterbox (unless one's using a dock extender). Any plans to make the next version fit the Otterbox?[Many devices do, from Apple's iphone charging cables to Griffin's Powerjolt for iphone]. Thanks!
  • We're in the process of evaluating a separate cable (with female
connector) to extend the iPhone, but the cable must be cheaper then
the few available right now (over $25). Another serious idea is to
have a different model for people like you where you can use your
normal iPhone cable and put the USB-plug into our battery. This
enables me to have possible a 3x stronger battery of 5600 mAh. I think
I will try to manufacture both to keep old a new customers happy. I
will send you a mail when we starting to sell that extension cable.

    Henk
  • Congratulations Henk. Your product (yes, it can be said its yours) is making waves all over the planet. Your personal touch and outstanding customer service speak volumes! So many great reviews, not only for the product but also for you support/service. Well done.

I've been searching for a product to keep my iPhone 3G alive for longer and I've finally found it. I've yet to place my order, don't have my card details to hand, but will do as soon as I get a chance today.

I do use a case for iPhone, but I don't think I can wait much longer for the new version as you mentioned above. However, I would be interested if you release a higher powered version - so please keep me in the loop.

And if you need a UK based reseller - do let me know ;) lol

Once again, all the best wishes.
  • Dear Wixar

Thanks for the nice words. Currently we're working (= ahum, I must
say, I am working) on a lot of three new products:

the smallest Macbook Air external battery in the world,
a smaller 3GJUICE for non mobile warriors
Major Mojo, a bigger 5400 mAh battery for the iPhone (and G1) which
HAS a cable (although I hate cables).

And yes, we need resellers in UK and Canada, so for that mail your
    brilliant plans to reseller@3gjuice.com

    Henk
  • I live in the UK - Pack of (three) 3G Juices shipped (express mail) on Friday 15 May and delivered on Monday 18 May - 'Fantastic'.

Great service, great product and I have to say that Henk is a genuinely nice guy. Responds to emails personally and puts customer service first.

Highly recommended. You won't be disappointed....:)
